Serene Reflection Meditation Group
Our group follows the Soto Zen School of Buddhism and we are one of over twenty groups in the United Kingdom affiliated to Throssel Hole Buddhist Abbey in Northumberland (founded 1972).
This Japanese form of Buddhism was brought to the West by Reverend Master Jiyu-Kennett, an English woman who was ordained in Malaysia and lived in Japan as a Buddhist priest for a number of years. She is the author of Zen is Eternal Life (Shasta Abbey Press, reprinted 2000).
Our particular tradition focuses on sitting meditation (Zazen) and mindful awareness in daily life. We meet together as a group to support each other in our practice, but all are welcome and we can provide meditation instruction for those who want it.
We meet on the second Thursday of the month, 7.30-10.00pm, in Spital, Wirral.
The usual schedule for the evening is a short ceremony (in English) and meditation, followed by tea and a recorded talk (on audio tape). We also have monks to visit from time to time, to lead group evenings or give public talks. We do not charge for any of these meetings, and cover all expenses through donations. The group also has a small library of books and audio & videotapes which are available for loan.
